The Exonerations of Illinois

by Staff Writer

According to the Star tribune, Since 1989, over 2,000 innocent convicts have been freed from prison.  These individuals were freed because they were later found “not guilty.”  This is why the criminal justice system is trying to learn more about false convictions.  A few experts are starting to believe that there may be some police corruption involved with the wrongly accused.  Some individuals confess to crimes that they did not do because of government pressure.

The term exonerations often refer to individuals who have been falsely accused of a crime.  The state of Illinois has had more of these than any other state in the United States of America.  Cook County in Illinois and Dallas County in Texas has the largest amount of this.  Half of the exonerations found involved at least five year prison sentences.  Many people did not realize this serious issue until the data was presented to the public.

If you or someone you know is dealing with exonerations it would be best to contact an expert as soon as possible.  An attorney that specializes in affairs related to this would definitely help with issues related to this topic.
